In the book, graphics are used to aid in describing the properties of light and to illustrate connections between the physical and spiritual attributes of light. Some of these figures may be easier to understand when viewed in color in addition to the grayscale versions provided in the book. Please see below for color versions of each figure. Figure 2.1Light consists of electromagnetic radiation and comes in units of photons (small, individual pieces of light). A common flashlight emits trillions and trillions of photons every second. Photons are always moving (at about the speed of light) and are made up of a magnetic field and an electric field combined orthogonally. Photons never stop moving unless they are absorbed by something.

Figure 3.2Conceptual electrical circuits illustrating one possibility (by analogy) of how spiritual light radiation is powered. We all have a portion of the Light of Christ, which is a perfect light source that is broken down into two parts: (1) a luminescent coating (spiritualuminescence) that is always radiating a small amount of light, like the conscience, and (2) a light bulb that radiates light based on the energy supplied to it. The level of spiritual energy supplied is based on our obedience to, and worthiness of, the Holy Ghost (analogous to the battery in the electrical circuit).

Figure 4.1Schematic representation of graphene, which is a single sheet of carbon atoms arranged (bound together) in a honeycomb structure. When many layers of graphene are stacked together, they form graphite. The microscope image in the middle shows that, when placed on an appropriate substrate, even a single layer of atoms (graphene) is made visible, though it is fainter than the thicker (graphite) layers.
